Cascade Lakes Highway - Waldo Lake - Eugene
Spend your days swimming, hiking or biking and your nights under the clearest night skies and soaking in the warmest hot springs. From Bend bike out of the desert toward the Cascades. Spend a few nights among the alpine lakes; especially Waldo Lake. Descend into the temperate rain forest. National Forest Road 19 is one of Oregon's finer paved roads to bike. Camp anywhere you'd like. Don't skip Cougar (Terwilliger) hot springs!
If you're in the Portland area you could make an excellent extended trip by riding the end of the Oregon Divided trail over to Bend. When you finish in Eugene you could take the train back to Portland or bike the rest of the way and make it a loop. It'd be smart to increase tire size to 35c if you decide to go this route.
Watch out for those early summer mosquitoes!
Mostly paved, excepting a small section from Cascades Lakes Highway to Waldo.
